HospiceCare North Northumberland chosen as 2012 Charity
2nd August 2011
The Druridge Bay 10K committee are pleased to announce that this years chosen charity will be Hospice Care North Northumberland.
The charity is the main provider of palliative care throughout North Northumberland. They offer care and support in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for any adult with a life limiting or life shortening diagnosis, as well as support for their families and carers. From sites in Berwick and Alnwick, their services include Daycare facilities, Lymphedema Care, Hospice at Home, Therapeutic Clinics, Complementary Therapies and Bereavement Support.
HospiceCare services are delivered by a dedicated nurse led team to anyone within the community. We work closely alongside Primary Care Health Teams, GP’s, Hospitals as well as other organizations such as Macmillan and Citizens Advice to deliver our specialist care.
Druridge Bay 10K Chairman, Stan Hurst, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting such a worthy charity, right on our doorstep. I have no doubt that the community will once again get behind the Druridge Bay 10K and help us raise the vital funds needed to help those living with life limiting illness and supporting their familes and carers. In the past five years our participants have raised in excess of £100,000 and we are eager to carry on their good work with this, our 6th 10K race.”
Julie Mawer, Community Fundraiser for Hospice Care North Northumberland, said: ‘HospiceCare North Northumberland are over the moon to be chosen as next year’s charity for the Duridge bay 10k fun run.
We tried last year but were unsuccessful, so we are really honored to be this year’s charity and are looking forward to be working with this wonderful team. So anyone who enjoys fun, fresh air or a challenge come and join us and help support a local charity’.
The inaugural Druridge Bay 10K in 2007 saw 214 runners finishing at Druridge Bay Country Park and with 448 runners crossing the finish line in 2010 has continued to be a massive draw to both runners, spectators and fundraisers alike. The event has grown in size, stature and popularity, and has become a well established event in the north east’s sporting calendar.
The Run, which incorporates some of Northumberland’s most picturesque coastal spots, is open to competitive athletes, joggers, walkers and fundraisers over the age of 13 (Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult). Entries are not open yet but to register your interest in the 2012 race, visit www.druridgebay10k.org.uk, click on the ‘contact us’ page and send a message including your name, age and email address.
